Author Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers before you begin a publishing project.

These answers explain the general way CVF Books & Publications approaches author services, pricing, payments, ownership, production, and Amazon publishing. Project-specific terms are always stated in writing.

Before You Contact Us

You do not need to understand every publishing detail before asking for help.

Many first-time authors are uncertain about editing, formatting, ISBNs, Amazon accounts, pricing, royalties, and publication rights. The initial inquiry helps identify the appropriate next step.

How much does it cost?

Focused planning, review, formatting, or publishing services may begin around $100 to $300. A typical complete book-development project may begin around $600. Expanded or complex projects receive an individual written quote.

Why are prices quoted individually?

A completed manuscript needing formatting requires far less work than a book developed from interviews, notes, research, or an incomplete draft. The quote reflects the actual services, length, complexity, formats, and responsibilities.

Are payment plans available?

Selected projects may use a deposit and final balance, milestone payments, or an approved payment plan. The payment schedule and work stages are stated in the written proposal or invoice.

Must the entire project be paid upfront?

Small services under $300 are normally paid before work begins. Medium projects commonly use a deposit and final balance. Larger projects may be divided into milestone payments.

Can I begin with only an idea?

Yes. A project may begin with an idea, outline, notes, recordings, interviews, personal experience, research, a partial manuscript, or a completed draft.

Can you write or expand the manuscript?

Yes. Depending on the approved scope, services may include planning, research integration, writing assistance, expansion, rewriting, organization, ghostwriting, or manuscript development.

Who owns the book?

Ownership, publication rights, imprint use, final files, and related responsibilities are defined in the written agreement. Authors should never rely on assumptions about rights or ownership.

Who receives the Amazon royalties?

Royalty arrangements depend on which Amazon KDP account publishes the book and whether the author publishes independently or under an approved imprint arrangement. This is clarified before publication.

Can I publish through my own Amazon KDP account?

Yes. Authors may receive professional assistance while publishing through their own Amazon KDP account, business, organization, or independent imprint.

Can the book be published under CVF Books & Publications?

Selected projects may be considered for publication under the CVF Books & Publications imprint. Imprint use is not automatic and requires a separate written agreement.

Who provides the ISBN?

The appropriate ISBN option depends on the format, publishing account, imprint, and ownership plan. CVF Books can explain the available choices before final files are prepared.

Is cover design included?

Cover direction and coordination may be included in a project. Original cover design, licensed artwork, photography, or outside design services are included only when the written quote specifically states so.

Which formats can be prepared?

Projects may include Kindle, paperback, and hardcover editions. Each edition is prepared according to its own technical and production requirements.

How long does the process take?

Timing depends on manuscript readiness, project length, research, writing and editing needs, author response time, requested formats, and current production availability.

How many revisions are included?

Included revision rounds and approval stages are identified in the written proposal. Major changes after approval, new chapters, or work beyond the original scope may require an additional quote.

Are proof copies and Amazon charges included?

Amazon proof copies, author copies, shipping, ISBN purchases, licensed artwork, advertising, and other third-party expenses are separate unless the written quote expressly includes them.

Will you accept every manuscript?

No. Projects are reviewed for fit, feasibility, content standards, schedule, legal concerns, professional requirements, and available production capacity.

Do you guarantee publication or book sales?

No. Professional assistance does not guarantee acceptance, publication, sales, rankings, reviews, royalties, media coverage, or commercial success.

The written proposal controls the project.

Website descriptions and starting prices provide general guidance. Every accepted project should have written terms covering scope, fees, payments, responsibilities, revisions, outside expenses, ownership, delivery, and publication arrangements.
