Content Standards

Clear professional and ethical standards for every project we consider.

CVF Books & Publications works with a broad range of authors and subjects, but every project must meet our standards for legality, responsibility, professionalism, and meaningful content.

Our Approach

Broad enough to welcome strong ideas, clear enough to maintain firm boundaries.

We do not limit our work to one religious, professional, or literary category. We may consider general-market fiction and nonfiction, Christian and faith-based works, memoir, biography, history, relationships, personal development, professional guidance, and other meaningful subjects.

At the same time, we reserve the right to decline any project that conflicts with our ethical standards, professional judgment, legal obligations, or publishing direction.

Projects We May Consider

A wide range of thoughtful fiction and nonfiction

Acceptance depends on the manuscript, the requested services, the author’s goals, and the overall fit of the project.

Memoir and Biography

Personal stories, family histories, military experiences, testimonies, professional journeys, and biographies presented responsibly.

History and Education

Historical works, instructional books, research-based nonfiction, educational resources, and explanatory guides.

Faith and Christian Living

Theology, devotional writing, spiritual growth, church leadership, apologetics, Christian relationships, and practical faith.

Relationships and Life Transitions

Marriage, companionship, grief, divorce recovery, remarriage, intimacy, family challenges, and rebuilding life after loss.

Professional and Practical Nonfiction

Business experience, leadership, ministry, service, career guidance, personal development, and practical instruction.

Selected Fiction

Fiction may be considered when it aligns with our standards and does not depend on explicit sexual content, exploitation, hatred, or harmful promotion.

Projects We Do Not Accept

Subjects or treatments that fall outside our publishing standards

The examples below are not exhaustive. We may decline other projects when the subject, treatment, legal risk, or requested work is not a suitable fit.

Pornography and Explicit Erotica

We do not accept pornography, graphic sexual content, explicit erotic fiction, sexual exploitation, or material created primarily for sexual stimulation.

Gambling Promotion

We do not assist with books that promote gambling systems, betting schemes, casinos, predatory gaming, or strategies presented as reliable financial gain.

Illegal or Harmful Activity

We do not support material that meaningfully facilitates crime, fraud, exploitation, abuse, trafficking, dangerous evasion, or intentional harm.

Hatred and Dehumanization

We do not accept works that promote hatred, dehumanization, targeted harassment, racial supremacy, extremist recruitment, or violence against protected groups.

Fraudulent or Misleading Claims

We do not knowingly assist with deceptive memoir, fabricated credentials, false guarantees, fraudulent financial claims, or intentionally misleading content.

Copyright or Ownership Violations

We do not publish stolen material, unauthorized reproductions, plagiarized work, or content for which the author lacks necessary rights or permissions.

Mature Topics

Serious life subjects may be appropriate when handled responsibly.

Mature subject matter is not automatically prohibited. The deciding factors are purpose, tone, detail, audience, responsibility, and whether the treatment is graphic, exploitative, or primarily intended to provoke.

Topics that may be considered

  • Christian romance and companionship
  • Marriage and intimacy within committed relationships
  • Dating and remarriage after divorce
  • Love and companionship after the death of a spouse
  • Grief, loneliness, betrayal, and emotional recovery
  • Abuse recovery and difficult family experiences
  • Health, aging, caregiving, and end-of-life concerns

Appropriate treatment should be

  • Purposeful rather than sensational
  • Respectful toward readers and affected individuals
  • Non-graphic when discussing sexual matters
  • Accurate about legal, medical, or professional limitations
  • Protective of privacy and personal dignity
  • Suitable for the stated audience and publishing purpose
  • Consistent with our ethical and editorial standards

Project Review

How content suitability is determined

1

Initial Description

The author explains the subject, audience, purpose, current manuscript status, and services being requested.

2

Material Review

We may review sample chapters, an outline, proposal, synopsis, interview material, or the complete manuscript.

3

Risk and Fit Review

We consider subject matter, treatment, ownership, permissions, legal concerns, workload, quality, feasibility, and overall fit.

4

Decision and Scope

We may accept the project, request changes, limit the scope, refer the author elsewhere, or decline the project.

Final Decision

Submitting a project does not guarantee acceptance or publication.

CVF Books & Publications may decline a project at its discretion. Acceptance for one service does not automatically mean acceptance for publication under the CVF Books & Publications name or imprint.
